Amaka Unaka, Coach of the girls’ KIPP Ascend Charter
School Step Team, Chicago, IL. Ms Unaka is also a social
worker at the school. |

The purpose of the inaugural Step U.P. Awards is to
recognize those individuals who promote the positive aspects
of stepping – both with students and in the community. The
awards and recognition are to reflect activity during the
2007-2008 calendar year. |

Step Team
Academic All-Americans –
recognizes high school step team members (9th – 12th grades)
that maintain a 3.3 GPA or better.
Coach of the
Year Awards –
recognizes the volunteer efforts of teachers and community
leaders who volunteer their time to teach youth this
cultural dance form.

You do not have to be in a Greek
Organization to support the NSSA or
become
involved with our step mentoring programs.
Member dues help support this non-profit, volunteer organization
cover operating expenses such as communication and show
sponsorship.
