Magnet School Step Team, Nashville, TN. Ms Gold is also
a teacher at the school.

Amaka Unaka, Coach of the girls’ KIPP Ascend Charter
School Step Team, Chicago, IL. Ms Unaka is also a social
worker at the school.

The purpose of the inaugural Step U.P. Awards
is to recognize those individuals who promote
the positive aspects of stepping – both with
students and in the community. The awards
and recognition are to reflect activity during
the 2007-2008 calendar year.

Step Team
Academic All-Americans –
Recognizes high school step team members (9th – 12th grades)
that maintain a 3.3 GPA or better.
Coach of the
Year Awards –
Recognizes the volunteer efforts of teachers and community
leaders who volunteer their time to teach youth this
cultural dance form.
