National Convention – Summer, 2009

The 1st annual NSSA National
Convention will be held in June 2009
providing a forum for all
individuals interested in stepping
to share performances, ideas, and
concerns about the stepping art
form. The NSSA Convention planning
team is already working on the
convention sessions and training
modules. Details will be updated on
this web page in October when all
the conference agenda items have
been finalized.

The NSSA is developing and
co-sponsoring conferences to respond
to member requests for information
sharing, networking, and
collaboration.
Conferences
Saturday, June 21, 2008 "State of
Stepping" Symposium – Columbus, OH.
This symposium will discuss the
current status of stepping, both
from a youth and Greek Perspective.
Topics will include
Community vs. Promoter
sponsored step shows, the
"standardization"
of stepping terminology and
judging, growth of youth step
programs as well as defining
stepping. The event
is hosted by the Columbus
alumni NPHC chapter. This
second symposium builds from
the 1st
State of Stepping symposium held in
March in Nashville during the 2008
Music City Step Fest.
The event is free.
Youth Coaches Clinic
These clinics provide the venue to
discuss the joys and challenges of
sponsoring a youth step team. The
program will allow for networking
with other coaches and sharing ideas
about team development, step show
planning, judging, and overall
program support. The clinic is open
to coaches of all types of youth
teams – whether you coach a school,
church, or community center step
team.

Youth Coaches Clinic Dates
Saturday morning, September 6, 2008
– Nashville, TN
Sunday afternoon, November 9, 2008 –
Raleigh/Durham (Triangle), NC Each clinic is limited to 20
participants, so register early.
The NSSA sponsors stepping workshops
to help current youth step members
improve technical proficiency and to
help kids new to stepping learn the
fundamentals. These workshops are
taught by NSSA certified step
coaches.
The NSSA’s Summer Step Camps will be
held during June, July, and August
in Nashville, primarily for Middle
Tennessee area youth. These camps
are held on Saturdays.
Bring the NSSA’s Step Camp to your
city . . .
Are you interested in having a
workshop in your city? Simply email
the NSSA with information about your
program and location. These remote
camps will have the same quality
instruction as the camps sponsored
in Nashville. These camps are ideal
for school groups, city park and
recreation departments, and
after-school programs. Step camps are available as 1,
2 or 4 day workshops
