IN September 2007, The NSSA has partnered with the Metro Nashville
Department of Public Health, Metro (Nashville) Parks & Recreation
Department, and the HBCU Wellness Project at Fisk University
to create the “Step UP to Health Nashville” program.
The program works with over 200+ young people (4th – 9th grade) by creating youth step teams at area community centers.
In addition to joining stepteams the students have weekly
health and educational “rap sessions” along with homework assistance.
The teams compete in a city
wide step show at the end of each semester.
The “Step Up to Health” program has been funded by a two
year $500,000
grant from the Tennessee State Department of Health.
